Random Thoughts, Run-Bike-Hike

Next weekend  the NorCal – John Frank Memorial Run is taking place in Redding. Runners from all over the region will be taking part in the 1, 3 and 10 mile races on March 6th starting from the pavillion area of Lake Redding Park at the Diestelhorst Bridge.  From the 1 mile Grade School Challenge, 3 mile fun run to the 10 mile PA/USATF Road Championship there is something for every level of runner to enjoy.

The event is hosted by SWEAT,  a great group of local running enthusiasts who go to great lengths to share their love of running with the Redding community. SWEAT hosts open to anyone fun runs throughout the year including the Frosty Fun Runs and Sunset Run Through the Trees where you  can meet up with a fun bunch of locals and get some exercise. You don’t need to be a competitive runner to have a good time at these events either. From runners to jog/walkers everyone gets to share in a positive experience in a supportive and communal environment.

If you’re interested in participating in the NorCal – John Frank Memorial Run you can register at Fleet Feet on Hilltop through the 5th and on race day at the event from 7 to 9:30 am.

PG&E Offers Free Weatherization, Appliances

Random Thoughts, Tips for Homeowners

Perhaps we can’t all go to Copenhagen to work on climate change issues but there is something we can do here at home and it’s free. If you know anyone with a low/mid income or who receives assistance such as SSI or Medi-Cal and lives in a home with PG&E gas or electric service let them know about the Energy Partner Program. Available to both renters or owners the Energy Partner Program helps those who meet income guidelines obtain energy saving assistance free of charge.

Tell your friends who rent, first time home buyers, seniors on fixed incomes, landlords who have qualifying tenants or anyone else who can take advantage of this great program.

First Time Buyers can use 8k tax credit for down payment

First Time Buyers, Random Thoughts

Great news for First Time Home Buyers. You can now use the $8,000 tax credit towards your home purchase!   ”Today’s announcement details FHA’s rules allowing state Housing Finance Agencies and certain non-profits to “monetize” up to the full amount of the tax credit (depending on the amount of the mortgage) so that borrowers can immediately apply the funds toward their down payments. Home buyers using FHA-approved lenders can apply the tax credit to their down payment in excess of 3.5 percent of appraised value or their closing costs, which can help achieve a lower interest rate. D.R. Horton “Builders Short Sale” this weekend.

Random Thoughts

D.R. Horton is holding a “Builders Short Sale” this weekend May 2 and 3 in their River Crest subdivision located across from Riverview Golf and Country Club. While not a true short sale there still may be some real values available as they try to sell out the subdivision. 7 homes will be for sale including the model homes and price reductions and financing concessions will be released the morning of the 2nd. Not all of the homes are listed on the MLS at this time so Call or e-mail me for a complete list. Homes range in size from 2,077 sq. ft. to 2,925 sq. ft.
The key to being successful at this event is getting pre-approved through DHI financing in advance. While you are not required to use their financing to purchase the home they will be offering some pretty big incentives possibly including builder paying all closing costs and buying down your interest rate. If you are interested in getting ready to attend please call me at 530.515.9097 for complete details. I will be happy to give you some advice on how to proceed and put you in touch with preferred DHI mortgage consultant.

City of Redding DAP on Hold

Random Thoughts

The City of Redding Down Payment Assistance Program or DAP is a great way for qualifying buyers to purchase homes that they otherwise could not afford. Unfortunately the City DAP program is not accepting applications from new clients as no funding is available. Those buyers who already have a letter of eligibility from the City should not be impacted by this.
The City of Redding has indicated that funding should become available in July and buyers who have turned in applications but have not yet received eligibility letter will be first in line. They should also resume accepting new applications at that time.
What is unknown is how the program will look as the grant money has to be split up among various programs. This may result in lower DAP amounts.
If you want to take advantage of DAP funding when it is available you should start by getting pre-approved with a DAP knowledgeable lender. Contact Me for additional information on how to buy a home using DAP financing.

Thanksgiving not just this Thursday

Random Thoughts

Sandee just reminded me Thanksgiving is this Thursday. We certainly have allot to be thankful for and in the rush of the everyday probably don’t really reflect on it often enough. This year in particular I am thankful for the many wonderful organizations that help serve the members of our community who are experiencing difficult times. Because of the work of non-profits like People of Progress, Redding Loaves and Fishes, the Good News Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army many who might otherwise go without will be served this Thanksgiving. All of these folks work year around to support the most vulnerable members of our community and deserve our gratitude. More than our gratitude they need our support. If you are in a position to help through a donation of time, food or money you can bet they will appreciate it.
As an inspirational musical tribute to the work of all of the wonderful people in service to our community today’s featured video is Phil Keaggy’s “Salvation Army Band“. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Take a trip to the Sculpture Park

Random Thoughts

Yesterday Sandee and I stopped in at the farmers market held each Saturday at Redding City Hall. We picked up some veggies for the week, grabbed a couple of tamales and walked over and checked out the Sculpture Park.

We had seen the fly fisherman sculpture and some of the mosaicultures while driving down Cypress Avenue but we had never actually walked through the park. What a cool place! If you have not yet been to the Sculpture Park check out today’s featured video. We just happened to have our trusty digi-cam with us and took a few photos to share with you.
